The BioMat creates radiant heat, rather than conductive heat, radiant heat is known as infrared. Infrared heat is far superior in therapeutic value because it is evenly distributed throughout the body changing the core temperature. On the high settings, the BioMat provides similar benefit to a far infrared sauna and can be used for detox, chronic pain, and body temperature elevation. On a medium setting, little to no sweating occurs, and deep relaxation is attained with improvement of circulation (this is the setting used in the office with most acupuncture treatments).
