Enhance Your Acupuncture Session: The Amethyst BioMat®

At Be Well Acupuncture, we are always looking to bring you additional solutions for living a healthy and energized life. One such solution is the Richway Amethyst BioMat®. This mat can be a great complement to your acupuncture session.

What is the Amethyst BioMat ®?

Richway describes the BioMat® as a "healing and heating pad." It is an FDA-approved medical device used to treat:

• Minor muscle pain (including muscular back pain)
• Minor sprains & strains
• Minor joint pain & stiffness, as well as arthritis pain
• Muscle spasms

This device is also FDA-approved to relax the muscles and temporarily increase circulation in the area to which it is applied. The mat may also help reduce inflammation, improve sleep, and enhance overall well-being, though it has not been FDA-cleared to do so.

How does the Amethyst BioMat Work ®?

The BioMat® uses far infrared ray technology and negative ions to deliver deep relaxation and treat the approved indications. "Far infrared" is a region of the electromagnetic spectrum below the range of visible light.

Many people turn to conventional heating pads for pain relief, but the heat these pads produce typically only penetrates the first few millimeters of the skin. Conversely, the far infrared ray technology in the BioMat® produces heat that deeply penetrates the body without damaging the skin the way the UV rays of sunlight do. (Far infrared rays are even used in neonatal hospital units to keep babies warm.)

Negative ions are molecules that have gained an extra electron (a negatively charged elementary particle). They are found in sunlight as well as in places like waterfalls, fountains, and ocean shorelines – anywhere water crashes into itself. They're also present in the air after a thunderstorm. Research suggests that exposure to negative ions may improve mental alertness and performance and may even help alleviate symptoms of seasonal affective disorder.

The Biomat® is also enhanced with amethyst, a crystal believed by ancient cultures and in present-day alternative medicine circles as reiki practitioners to have healing properties that may help conduct and/or amplify the far infrared rays.

Enhancing acupuncture With the amethyst biomat ®

Lying on the BioMat® while receiving acupuncture can be a deeply relaxing experience. Our professional version in the office is 74" long and comes with a customizable temperature setting.

We typically use the mat on a medium temperature setting, so that little or no sweating occurs, but you still receive the benefits of improved circulation. Always consult your doctor before use.
