herbs & oils AT BE WELL

Dr. Cara has extensive training in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbs and the use of essential oils with acupuncture.

Dr. Cara completed her TCM herbal degree in 2016 and has been studying essential oils for the past decade. Essential oils and Aroma Acupoint studies have brought her to Sri Lanka, and this year her studies will continue to deepen and bring her to Sardinia! In TCM, acupuncture and herbs are used together in a synergistic effect of treating the mind, body & spirit.

While incorporating TCM herbs and essential oils are not required, they are often encouraged to help the patient feel better faster.

Aroma Acupoint treatments are essential oils used on specific acupuncture points, similar energetically to acupuncture needles used at specific acupuncture points. Dr. Cara finds this method especially useful in treating emotional and spiritual imbalances of the body.

Dr. Cara often incorporates essential oils in conjunction with acupuncture in her traditional acupuncture sessions, however needle-less Aroma Acupoint sessions can be booked where no needles are used and solely essential oils are.

What is Aroma Acupoint?

how do TCM herbs work?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbs work based on principles that focus on restoring balance and harmony within the body. TCM views health as a balance between the body's energies and the flow of Qi. Herbs are used to restore this balance.

Each herb has unique properties & functions and practitioners diagnose conditions based on patterns of disharmony (e.g., excess heat, dampness, deficiency) rather than specific diseases.

Herbs are often used in combinations to enhance their effects and mitigate potential side effects. Formulas are tailored to individual needs and unlike some Western approaches that focus on immediate symptom relief, TCM herbs aim for long-term health by strengthening the body's constitution and resilience.

  • While aromatherapy can also be very therapeutic and healing aroma acupoint is different as it doesn't require the smell or breathing in of oils and is more used for energetic healing properties of the oils on different acupuncture points on the body.  In some areas aromatherapy and aroma acupoint therapy may have similarities in nature, however Dr. Cara views them as different modalities.
